DANG, Jan 16: Sixteen Kamlaris, bonded girl laborers, have been rescued during a campaign launched by a team formed by various non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in association with Children Welfare Center (CWC), Dang.

The rescue campaign was launched in Dang, Bardiya and Kathmandu district. The rescue team had checked buses plying on the east-west highway to find girls being sent to work as Kamlaris.

Despite the government´s ban on Kamlari system, local landlords in mid and far western districts still keep poor Tharu girls as domestic helps.
