KATHMANDU, Aug 14: President Bidya Devi Bhandari has sent the Citizenship Amendment Bill that was endorsed by both the houses of federal parliament back to parliament for reconsideration.

President Bhandari sent the Bill that has lately courted so much of controversy back to parliament for reconsideration without authenticating it, according to the Office of President. Earlier, President Bhandari had held consultation with various stakeholders including legal professionals as the Bill endorsed through parliament courted controversy.

Ruling parties—Nepali Congress and CPN (Maoist Center)—have already announced to send back to President Office for authentication if President Bhandari sends the Bill back to parliament to reconsider the decision

The move of President Bhandari is likely to heat up the national politics as the parliamentary elections are just a few months away. Top leaders of Madhes-based political parties have criticized the decision of President Bhandari to send the Bill back to parliament.
