KATHMANDU, August 11: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba said that universities should focus on producing manpower that can compete in the world market.

Speaking at the '60th Annual Day/Diamond Festival' and 'Symposium on Higher Education Situation and Challenges’ organized by Nepal’s National Teachers Association in Kathmandu on Thursday, Prime Minister Deuba said that universities should produce academic manpower that can compete in the global market.

He said that the development of a country is measured by the quality of education in that country. He also said that the universities should focus on creating skilled manpower by incorporating new knowledge and technology that is being developed in the international field into their curriculum.

He mentioned that it is necessary for professors to strive to make the educational quality of universities competitive. Deuba emphasized that higher education should be made research-based, useful for life, and employment-based.

He said, “It is expected that the professors who have the primary responsibility of advancing the teaching and learning of the university to be quality, contemporary and technology-friendly, will make higher education research-based, useful for life, employment-based, and dedicate themselves more for the benefit of the country and the people.”
