KATHMANDU, July 5: Bibeksheel Sajha Party has demanded the resignation of Finance Minister Janardan Sharma and action against him on criminal charges. Saroj Gautam, coordinator of Sajha’s youth organization, issued a press release demanding the dismissal of the finance minister.
The party has said that the last-minute manipulation of tax rates in the Finance Bill by unauthorized persons on the night before the budget for 2079/80 was tabled in parliament, was a treasonous act. They have also demanded the CCTV footage of the day to be made public as soon as possible.
The statement said, “It is a matter of national shame for us to have a government minister-led crackdown on such a sensitive public document as the budget, and to have a secret document in the middle of the night for unauthorized persons with business interests, including foreign nationals. The Ministry of Finance has responded that the parliamentary investigation into the criminal charge of treason against the finance minister could not be carried out and the CCTV footage to assist in the investigation should be kept safe for at least three months. It is confirmed that the alliance and the opposition parties are also in agreement.”
Similarly, the party has demanded that the finance minister be taken into custody as per the law and action be taken against him as it is an organized crime committed not only by stealing government documents but also by taking advantage of public office and abusing trust in public office.
