GALKOT, June 23: As the rainy season arrives, locals from Huldi start getting worried. Huldi village is located in a landslide-prone area. Huldi village in Nisikhola Rural Municipality -1 of Baglung district has been facing landslides for years. In Huldi village, where small landslides have been occurring for many years, the landslide in 2016 cracked houses in many places.

As soon as the rain starts, they get worried about dying. During the winter, even if the panic in the settlement is less, with the heavy rains, their minds are overwhelmed with fear. The locals from Huldi can not sleep at night because of the fear of landslides.

Chandra Bahadur Sinjali Magar, a landslide victim, complained that most of the people would be forced to take their livestock and live in a place called Daha in the forest above the village if heavy rains continued. He added he used to live in the village to avoid landslides.

Landslides have hit about 100 places in Huldi village. Even after the landslide, some locals are forced to stay in the village with their lives in their hands. Landslides have washed away houses and farms in the village every year. Although the entire village is at high risk of landslides, the geologists have studied it and concluded that it is not suitable to live in it, but the locals have been living in the same place as they have no choice.

Along with Huldi village, the situation is similar in Devisthan's Khara Bazaar, Khadu Bazaar, Kanda Kateni and Bahun village. The locals have not been able to leave the village.Nisikhola municipality is the most flood prone municipality of the district.Landslides have displaced 282 households in the municipality

The locals said that the government had neglected to understand and solve their problems even though the houses could be secured by constructing gabions or managing them. Locals are angry that the government has ignored the landslide.
