Lumbini State Minister of Health Wali admitted to hospital, probe committee formed to look into Tulsipur incident

BUTWAL, June 15: Lumbini Province’s State Minister for Health Bimala Wali has been admitted to a hospital after ‘suddenly falling ill’. According to the Chief Whip of the CPN (Maoist Center), Bashant Gharti Magar, Minister Wali has been brought to Butwal and admitted to Lumbini Provincial Hospital since last night ‘due to health problems’.

Superintendent Dr Indra Dhakal of the hospital said that Minister Wali was admitted to the hospital in an unconscious state and is currently receiving treatment. Dr Dhakal said that Minister Wali was undergoing treatment for high blood pressure and diabetes, adding that her health is improving. The hospital also said that more test results are yet to come.

On Tuesday, Minister Wali was taken into police control after she assaulted a woman and her daughter in their own home. According to the police, the minister was brought to the hospital the same night. 

Wali has been accused of entering the house of Ekraj Basnet in Tulsipur and assaulting his wife and daughter. According to Minister Wali, she had lent some money to Basnet and had gone to his house to confront him after he did not pay the money despite repeated phone calls. She said that she was trapped in a planned manner when she went to Basnet's house to ask for her money.

Meanwhile, the Lumbini provincial government has formed a committee to investigate the incident.

A cabinet meeting formed a three-member committee under the coordination of the province’s Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications Tilak Ram Sharma to find out the truth about the incident. The members of the committee are Minister for Women and Children and Law Rama Gharti Magar and Chief Attorney of the province, Shrikrishna Subedi.
