KATHMANDU, May 23: National Assembly member Bhairav Sundar Shrestha has said that the government has failed to give the impression of being a government by increasing the price of petroleum products.

Speaking at a special session of the National Assembly on Monday, Shrestha said that the government has hurt the people by hiking the prices and was not accountable to the people, adding that the price hike has affected all sectors.

Shrestha said, "I wonder if there is a government in this country or not, looking at the current rise in the price of petroleum products. People are exhausted seeing the rise in the price of petroleum products in the last seven months.”

He added, “Our neighboring country, India has reduced its tax base for its citizens due to rising petroleum prices. They have given their citizens relief. While we don’t know if our government is asleep or awake.”
