KATHMANDU, April 10: The CPN-UML has accused the government of suspending the governor of Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) to cover up its incompetence.

Three former UML finance ministers have termed the government's decision to suspend Governor Maha Prasad Adhikari as objectionable and reprehensible.

He accused the government of suspending officials for failing to meet its ‘undue aspirations’ in the name of keeping the crisis-oriented economy on track.

UML Vice-Chairman and former finance minister Bishnu Prasad Poudel said that the government's decision to remove the governor, who was playing a pivotal role in improving the ailing economy, was reprehensible, shameful and disgusting. "The decision was taken under the pressure of some interest groups after he (governor) did not help the finance minister to fulfill his unfulfilled aspirations," he said.

Similarly, another former finance minister, Surendra Pandey, said that the issue of pressure on the NRB through a letter by the finance ministry to legalize illegal foreign money as reported in the media was a financial crime. He said, "This is a big crime, it should be investigated. And, the concerned body can even take action against the culprits.”
