KATHMANDU, Feb 19: President Bidhya Devi Bhandari has said that the democratic republic should be linked with the life of the people by making the people feel real change through social justice, equality and prosperity.
Expressing best wishes to all the Nepali brothers and sisters living at home and abroad on the occasion of National Democracy Day, she said that only a democratic system can build a strong nation by uniting the people in a garland of unity. President Bhandari also paid a heartfelt tribute to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the struggle for democracy.
“To make democracy meaningful, the appropriate political system is only a means, not an end. It is imperative that every aspect of national life develop high democratic conduct, mutual trust and a spirit of cooperation by standing on the foundation laid by the political system. Democracy is constantly evolving only with the awareness of the people. And, ultimately, democracy can be our way of people’s life,” the message said.
Similarly, expressing respect to all those who have contributed to various movements for the defense of Nepal's sovereignty, geographical integrity, national interest, self-respect and democracy, the President's message also wished that Democracy Day would inspire all to achieve lasting peace, good governance, development and prosperity.
