POKHARA, Feb 5: Communication with the Himalayan district of Manang has resumed after almost 50 hours. The region had been out of contact with the rest of the country due to the heavy snowfall that disrupted internet service in the region.
According to Chief District Officer (CDO) of Manang, Rabindra Prasad Acharya, telephone and internet services resumed from Saturday morning. The services had been down since Thursday. He shared that the Chame has been covered by thick snow, while the upper villages have experienced heavy snowfall. “Security personnel have been mobilized since morning to clear the snow from the roads. Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and Nepal Army personnel are currently clearing the snow from the roads,” CDO Acharya said.
CDO Acharya also shared that the heavy snowfall has obstructed transport services in the region. “Vehicles are facing difficulties to reach Chame. The weather was recorded at -3 degrees celsius even in the afternoon. It gets even colder during the night,” he said.
