Melamchi water to be brought to the Valley by mid-April: Drinking Water Minister

KATHMANDU, Jan 31: The government has announced to bring the water of the Melamchi River to the Kathmandu Valley by mid-April by building a temporary structure. Minister for Drinking Water, Umakant Chaudhary has announced to bring Melamchi water to the Valley temporarily within two and a half months. 

"We will bring water to the Valley by mid-April by constructing temporary structures in the flood-landslide-damaged Melamchi," he said. “An agreement has been signed with the construction company SinoHydro after completing the necessary process to divert the water from Melamchi to the Kathmandu Valley as a temporary measure. That is why there is a plan to bring Melamchi water to the Valley and release it by mid-April.”

Minister Chaudhary said that the work of removing a 20 meter high pile of landslide swept sand and soil and repairing in the headworks area of ​​the project through Variation has already started. 

Now that the variation has been approved, the contractor company has moved to the site. Minister Chaudhary claimed that the government has been working by attaching high importance to the Melamchi project, a project of national pride.
