KATHMANDU, Dec 10: CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli and the chairmen duo of the ruling CPN (Maoist Center) Pushpa Kamal Dahal and CPN (Unified Socialist) Chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal shared the same dias after a hiatus of a year during the inaugural session of the 14th General Convention of Nepali Congress (NC) on Friday.

Chairman Oli had stopped sharing the same dais with Dahal and Nepal — once part of the same party -- after the then Prime Minister Oli abruptly dissolved parliament and announced the date of federal election. As the Nepal and Dahal-led factions stepped up street protest against Oli's decision to dissolve parliament, the bitterness among these leaders further grew in the ensuing days.

The relations between Oli and Dahal began souring after Dahal presented a separate political paper accusing Oli of deviation from the party's ideology during the 70th meeting of the now-dissolved Nepal Communist Party (NCP). As Nepal sided with Dahal, the relations between Nepal and Oli also began worsening in the later days.

Nepal eventually decided to split the UML and formed a new party called CPN (Unified Socialist) under his leadership. Nepal and Oli have not held meetings for the past five months. The UML-led by Oli has been obstructing parliament sessions demanding that the Speaker Agni Sapkota dismiss the lawmakers belonging to the Nepal-led party.
