KATHMANDU, Nov 30: Chairman of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Kamal Thapa is literally left alone as all his close aides have decided to support his rival Rajendra Lingden as the party prepares to hold its national general convention to elect new leadership.

While two RPP presidents Pashupati SJB Rana and Prakash Chandra Lohani have announced their support to Lingden who has decided to contest for the post of party president against Thapa, Dhawal SJB Rana, who used to be close to Thapa earlier, is preparing to file his candidacy for the post of RPP General Secretary from Lingden's panel. Both Rana and Lohani have announced not to contest for the post of party chairman.

Issuing a statement on Tuesday, RPP President Lohani appealed to Thapa to act as a patron and leave the post of president to younger generation leaders. He said that it is good to hand over the party's leadership to younger generation leaders if there is no consensus on the top leadership of the party.

Party insiders say Thapa is likely to fail in his attempt to get reelected to the post of party president as his close aides have decided to side with his rival candidate.

Earlier, Thapa had asked Lingden, who was elected as a lawmaker to the House of Representatives (HoR) from Jhapa, to wait for four years. However, Lingden had declined the offer saying that he would contest for the post of party president to bring about reforms in the party.
