SINDHUPALCHOWK, Nov 9: Finance Minister Janardan Sharma has stated that his goal is to collect 200 times more revenue than the set target.

Speaking at a program organized after he inspected the Tatopani border checkpoint and customs office in Sindhupalchowk on Monday, Finance Minister Sharma said that his goal is to at least double the revenue collection amidst various challenges. “I am aiming to raise 200 times more revenue than the target,” he said. “Strict measures have been taken to increase revenue.”

However, he expressed confidence that the revenue collection would be in line with the target even if the revenue collection and economic growth were challenged due to the recent loss of billions of rupees due to unseasonal rains. He said that investment should be increased to increase the revenue and move ahead by coordinating with China for upgrading the road at Tatopani.

Minister Sharma also directed the authorities to formulate a concrete plan for investment by holding discussions between the finance secretary and the Secretary of the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport for the infrastructure development of Tatopani checkpoint.

“Demand how much budget we need for the infrastructure here, how much work we can do this year,” he said. “Also, evaluate how much the Chinese side will do. Let's move the work forward by connecting the two countries.”

As the Tatopani checkpoint is an international checkpoint, the government attaches importance to it and it should be developed on the basis of bilateral coordination, said Minister Sharma.

Minister Sharma visited the port and customs office and inspected the dry port constructed with the help of the Chinese government. The Tatopani checkpoint is currently closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
