The locals have been demanding action against VDC secretaries of Khopi and Ram Gopalpur VDCs for the latter´s involvement in financial irregularities.
The locals have only sustained minor injuries and have been taken to Janakpur Zonal Hospital and local clinics in Mahottari for treatment, Rameshwor Yadav, Deputy Superintendent of Police said.
The police opened fire to take the situation under control, the police added. The locals had also called a transport strike along the Bardibas-Jaleshwor road section since early morning.
Security has been beefed up in the area following the incident.
