Biratnagar Airport waterlogged: Flights cancelled (Photo Feature)

KATHMANDU, Oct 20: The Biratnagar Airport has been inundated due to floods triggered by continuous rain. All flights to and from the airport have been affected including the Kathmandu-Biratnagar flight after the airport was submerged, according to Tribhuvan International Airport.

Both major domestic airlines, Buddha Air and Yeti Airlines have issued notices stating that all flights from Kathmandu to Biratnagar have been canceled after the airport was waterlogged. Hundreds of passengers have been affected by the cancellation of the  flights.

Buddha Air had 11 to 13 daily flights to Biratnagar. The airline has stated that it is in the process of adding flights to Bhadrapur as an alternative to Biratnagar. Passengers will be able to travel from the Bhadrapur Airport. Buddha has been flying to Bhadrapur five times a day.

According to Buddha Air Information Officer Dipendra Kumar Karna, some flights are being added as per the demand of the passengers with the help of Nepal Civil Aviation Authority.

The runway, parking area and other places are waterlogged due to the flood in the local Kesalia River. It has been raining in Nepal for the past four days due to the combined effect of the low pressure system and the western wind system around Bihar and Uttar Pradesh in India.
