‘Trend of paying commissions in advertising sector should end’

MORANG, Oct 4: Stakeholders have demanded ending the practice of seeking high commissions by the government employees in the advertisements published by the federal and provincial offices in the provincial media.

In an interaction with the stakeholders related to information and communication organized by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Law of Province 1 on Monday, the media persons urged the ministry to work by making necessary laws for the development of journalists.

Lila Ballav Adhikari, Minister of State for Internal Affairs expressed his commitment to formulate necessary laws in collaboration with the federation to strengthen the media sector and make the work of the ministry transparent.

Secretary at the Ministry, Kali Prasad Parajuli expressed his commitment to provide advertisements directly to the media houses to end the practice of paying commissions in the advertising sector. According to Yagya Sharma, director of the Provincial Media Foundation, Rs 50,000 each was provided to the family of two journalists who lost their lives due to coronavirus and Rs 25,000 each to seven COVID-19 infected journalists.

President of the Federation of Nepali Journalists, Province 1, Lila Ballav Ghimire, presented a working paper on the problems of journalists and their solutions.
