ILAM, Dec 27: Ilam’s poor road has been affecting the tourism industry along with the resident. Locals are worried that if not repaired immediately, transport could be affected in the rainy season.

“Almost all roads across Ilam are in poor condition. Even those which were blacktopped recently are ripped off of the black topping,” Sukadev Rai, a Chhipitar resident said.

14-kilometer long Chhipitar - Antu road was black topped four years ago but the blacktopping was ripped within two years. Now the road is in dire need of repairs and Rai claims that the road has not repaired even though it is on the district’s priority list.

Chief of Ilam Road Division, Shiva Dahal, claimed that dozen of the roads were presently repaired. “Many roads are in need of repairs. However its not possible to repair all of them with allocated budget,” he said adding that the department was expediting repairs.

“Since roads cannot be repaired during the rainy season, we are trying to complete the repairs during the winter,” he said.
