KATHMANDU, August 17: A total of 127 people including 118 Nepali and nine Indian nationals have arrived in Kathmandu from Afghanistan via Qatar. They landed at the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) this morning on a Jazeera Airways flight.

According to Pratap Babu Tiwari, general manager of TIA, 127 people were brought to the country through an initiative by the US Air Force from Kabul, Afghanistan. In the first flight to Nepal after the Taliban entered the capital city of Afghanistan, Nepalis were flown to Doha, Qatar and were brought to Kathmandu via Kuwait. They were brought to Nepal by a chartered aircraft.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs through its Twitter handle informed the media about the arrival of Nepali nationals from Afghanistan. “Nepali nationals have started returning home from Afghanistan. 118 of them arrived at the Kathmandu airport by a chartered aircraft via Kuwait this morning,” it added. A Nepal Army team reached the airport to receive them.

Many Nepalis are still waiting to be rescued from Afghanistan. The MoFA has said that it will rescue all those who have come in contact with the ministry. Earlier, Nepal called on the international community for assistance in the rescue of Nepalis working in Afghanistan. Most of the Nepalis work as guards for international diplomatic missions in the country.
