KATHMANDU, August 16: The infection rate of COVID-19 infection is increasing on a daily basis across the country. Prohibitory order has been enforced to some extent in the capital and the administration has been urging the residents to avoid large gatherings to avoid further spread of COVID-19.

However, a large number of devotees were seen in Pashupatinath and other religious sites disregarding safety and health protocols on Monday. 

The month of July and August is considered auspicious for Hindu devotees as they worship their Lord Mahadev and observe fast for a whole month of Shrawan. A large number of devotees can be seen in Shiva temples on Mondays. Many female devotees worship Lord Shiva and break their fast on the last Monday of the month.

Large numbers of devotees can be seen outside the temples as they are barred from entering them. Local administration has already introduced rules to avoid conducting any kind of ceremonies from outside the temples. Many devotees were sad as they were not allowed to enter the temples.

Although the temple was closed for devotees due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a large number of people are seen gathering outside the temple. Many devotees can be seen worshipping the lingams, also referred as Shiva lingas with water, flowers and reciting prayers outside the temples.
