Probe committee steps up consultations in Darchula

DARCHULA, August 4: The probe committee formed to investigate the incident of Jaya Singh Dhami has started its work. The committee members who reached Darchula on Tuesday held discussions with district-based security bodies and security personnel deployed in and around the incident site.

The committee formed by the home ministry to investigate the incident under the coordination of the ministry’s Joint Secretary Janardan Gautam has initiated discussions with different authorities in Darchula.

The committee talked to the security personnel deputed in and around the incident site and other district-based security personnel.

The District Administration Office, Darchula had mobilized a team comprising DSP of Armed Police Force Nepal No. 44 Battalion, Bir Singh Dhami, Police Inspector of District Police Office, Darchula, Narendra Bahadur Chand and Bikram Singh Dhand of National Investigation District Office to investigate the Jayasingh Dhami incident.

Likewise, the committee is scheduled to hold discussion with district-based journalists, human rights defenders, political parties and people’s representatives on Wednesday. The team has been given a timeline of 10 days to submit its report.

The probe committee also includes DIG of Sudurpaschim Province, Purushottam Kandel, National Investigation Department’s Director Hutaraj Thapa, SSP of Armed Police Force Suresh Kumar Shrestha and Assistant CDO of Darchula, Jyotsannata Bhatta as members.

According to eyewitnesses, two Indian Seema Surakshya Bal (SSB) personnel had cut off an improvised cable crossing (tuin) stretching over the Mahakali River while the Nepali youth Jayasingh Dhami was crossing the river to India from the Nepali territory. Dhami has been missing ever since he fell into the river. His body has not been found yet.

The Indian administration has claimed that the SSB personnel did not cut off the cable over the Mahakali River. The Nepal government has decided to take necessary decisions based on the report of the probe committee.

The investigation team has met with eye witnesses of the incident, including Kalyan Singh Dhami, Anita Dhami and Bikram Rangkoli to Khalanga for further investigation into the incident.
