APF eves into football semifinal

SUNSARI, Dec 20: Armed Police Force (APF) has reached the semifinal of the women's football event under the Seventh National Games defeating Far-western Region 4-1 in its second group match on Tuesday. 

In the Group A match held at Duhabi, Sunsari, Rekha Poudel, Tej Kumari Gurung, Anita KC and Ranjana Darji scored one goal each for APF while Hema Chaudhary netted a consolation goal for Far-Western. APF went ahead in the game with Rekha's goal in the 11th minute but Hema scored an equalizer for Far-Western eight minutes later. The departmental side restored its lead in the 28th minute with Tek Kumari's goal while Anita made the scoreline 3-0 for APF in the 36th minute. Ranjana sealed victory for APF scoring in the 47th minute. 

Anita of the winning side was declared the player-of-the-match. After earning second win in the group, APF has six points sending it to the last four from Group A. Nepal Police Club has already entered the semifinal from the group. 

First win for Central Region
Similarly, in the second match of the day, Central region overcame Mid-Western 3-0 to register its first win in the competition. In the Group B fixture, Rashmi Kumari Ghising scored a brace for Central Region while Manisha Thapa Magar added another goal. 

Rashmi gave lead to Central scoring in the 24th minute while she netted her personal second two minutes later to make the scoreline 2-0. Manisha notched the third goal for the winning side in the 49th minute. After the win, Central Region remains in second position in the group with four points. Tribhuvan Army Club has already advanced to the last four from the group after producing two consecutive victories. 

On Wednesday, APF will vie against another departmental club Police in Group A while Army will face Central Region in Group B match.
