TAPLEJUNG, Dec 20: Taplejung District Court on Tuesday sentenced a rape-accused to 10 years in jail along with a fine of Rs 50,000.

Hearing the case, a single bench of Judge Ashok Kumar Basnet convicted Buddhabir Chongbang alias Bhote of Thukima VDC-4 of raping an eight-year-old girl. 

According to Gopal Prasad Thapa, registrar at the district court, Limbu had raped the minor in a maize field, luring her with Rs 50.

On June 11, police had arrested Limbu following a complaint lodged at the police station based on the minor’s statement by her parents.

Police had started investigation into the case on August 5.
