It has been learnt through the police investigation that Suka Dev and Sujita – who are cousins – were in a relationship. Suka Dev’s rejection of Sujita’s marriage proposal seems to have caused Sujita’s death.

KATHMANDU, July 24: The police have arrested a youth in relation to the death of Sujita Sujita Bhandari, 23, of Rapti Municipality-3 of Chitwan district.

The youth has been identified as Suka Dev Bhandari ( Sachin), 23, of Jhapa Rural Municipality-6 of Jhapa district, according to the District Police Office (DPO) of Chitwan. The youth was arrested from Kathmandu.

According to SP Om Prasad Adhikari, Suka Dev Bhandari was arrested after Sujita’s mother lodged a complaint against him.

Sujita, who had gone missing on her way to her friend’s house at 6 AM on June 25, was found dead in Brahmasthan Community Forest on July 5.

It has been learnt through the police investigation that Suka Dev and Sujita – who are cousins – were in a relationship. Suka Dev’s rejection of Sujita’s marriage proposal seems to have caused Sujita’s death, according to SP Adhikari. “I will kill myself if you don’t marry me,” police investigation officials quoted Sujita as threatening after Suka Dev rejected her proposal. 

According to the DPO, Chitwan, viscera results of Sujita are yet to be received. The police have demanded five years imprisonment and fine of up to Rs 50,000 against Suka Dev Bhandari on charge of ‘abetting’ suicide of Sujita.
