KATHMANDU, July 23: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has expressed his commitment to fulfilling the promises he made during the formation of the government.
During a meeting with lawmakers on Friday, Prime Minister Deuba said that he will vaccinate every single citizen of the country even if he has to take out loans for the purpose. Earlier, Deuba had announced that administering vaccines against people in the country would be the single most priority of the new government.
Deuba also criticized the role of President Bidya Devi Bhandari as she denied appointing him as new prime minister even as he submitted signatures of 149 lawmakers in the parliament.
“We had submitted the petition for the formation of the government with the signatures of the majority of lawmakers in parliament. A vote of confidence would have been taken at the very moment if the president had appointed me as the prime minister. But that did not happen,” Prime Minister Deuba said.
Furthermore, stating that the party cannot issue whip against lawmakers to cast votes in parliament as per Article 76(5) of the constitution, PM Deuba added, “We had only made a request to our lawmakers to cast their votes for vote of confidence. But we did not issue any whips to our lawmaker.”
He was referring to allegations made by opposition party lawmakers that the NC had issued whip to its lawmakers even as it argued that the party cannot issue whip to its lawmakers in the voting process to elect new prime minister as per the Article 76(5) of the constitution.
On the occasion, Prime Minister Deuba also thanked all the lawmakers who voted in his favor during the vote of confidence in parliament and elected him as new prime minister.
