KATHMANDU, June 27: Debate by the writ petitioners on the House dissolution case concluded on Sunday afternoon.

The case is being heard by the chief justice-led five-member constitutional bench, continuously since Wednesday, last week after a few days’ break.

More than two dozen writ petitions including one by the Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and 145 other members of the dissolved House have been lodged at the Supreme Court (SC) challenging the May 22’s move of President Bidya Devi Bhandari to dissolve the lower house of parliament.

The constitutional bench has allocated a total of 15 hours to the legal practitioners pleading on behalf of both petitioners and defendants. The petitioners now have three hours left for a reply after the defendants rest their case.

Government attorneys and other legal practitioners will start debating on behalf of the defendants including Prime MInister KP Sharma Oli and the Office of President from Monday.

Meanwhile, the amicus curiae has been allotted another two hours to present their opinion on the case.
