900,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine arrive in Nepal

KATHMANDU, June 2: Of the 1 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines provided by the Chinese government under grant assistance, 900,000 doses of vaccine arrived in Kathmandu on Tuesday.

A Nepal Airlines Corporation’s aircraft brought 800,000 doses from Beijing while Himalaya Airlines brought 100,000 doses from Kerung of Tibet. The remaining 100,000 doses of vaccines are scheduled to be brought on Wednesday, according to the Logistics Management Division of the Ministry of Health and Population. 

The 'Vero Cell’ vaccine produced by Sinopharm, a Chinese company has been given to Nepal as a grant. The vaccine has been approved by the World Health Organization. Less than a week after the Chinese government announced to provide an additional 1 million vaccines to Nepal, 900,000 vaccines have already arrived in Kathmandu. An additional 100,000 doses of vaccines that could not be brought on the same day due to technical reasons will also be brought through Himalayan Airlines.

Of the 1 million vaccines donated by China, 800,000 were provided by the Chinese central government and 200,000 by China's Tibet Autonomous Region. An additional 2,000 oxygen cylinders are also expected to arrive in Nepal on Wednesday. Before this, 1,500 cylinders were brought to Nepal. Apart from 200,000 vaccines, other health items have also been provided by the Tibet government, according to the Logistics Management Division.
