BHAKTAPUR, May 10: The District Administration Office (DAO), Bhaktapur has initiated an investigation into the alleged negligence of Kaushaltar-based Bhaktapur International Hospital at Madhyapur Thimi-3 in connection with the deaths of two Covid-19 patients.

Assistant Chief District Officer Mukesh Kumar Keshari said the DAO wrote to the Hospital on Sunday, seeking clarification on the matter. “We have initiated an investigation and we are not in the position to divulge further details about the issue now.  This is the part of investigation and we will go for further action once the hospital responds to the letter.’’

The 15-bed hospital is accused of admitting patients more than its actual capacity.  According to a source, a total of 28 Covid-19 patients were admitted to the hospital  on Thursday even as it was already running short of medical oxygen since the afternoon. In the night, visitors of ICU patients and those on the ventilator support were asked to shift their patients to somewhere else.

A 45-year-old male of Kamalbinayak of Bhaktapur who was on ventilator support died allegedly due to the lack of oxygen supply. Similarly, a 60-year-old male from Pokhara breathed his last while being rushed to Jawalakhel-based Alka Hospital.

Relatives of the deceased have alleged that the patient was taken out of ICU forcefully and they were asked to shift him to other hospital without referral documents.
