110 Nepali nationals die in UAE in the last five months

36 of them succumbed to COVID-19

KATHMANDU, Aug 13: As many as 110 Nepali nationals died of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) as well as other diseases in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the past five months.

According to the Embassy of Nepal in Abu Dhabi, five women and 105 men died due to various reasons including COVID-19 infection in the UAE since early March this year. Of the total 110 dying in the past five months, 36 individuals died of COVID-19 pandemic in the UAE.

As many as 69 dead bodies including the dead bodies of those dying of COVID-19 were cremated in the UAE itself. Likewise, 26 dead bodies were repatriated to Nepal, according to the Embassy. 

The Embassy said preparations are being made to send four more dead bodies to families in Nepal, while 11 other bodies are currently under investigation in various hospitals in the UAE.

As many as 105 Nepali nationals had died in the UAE due to various reasons including accidents and infection of various diseases.

Likewise, more than 13,785 Nepali migrant laborers, who were left stranded in UAE due to the COVID-19 pandemic, have been repatriated to Nepal in the last two months.
