NCP's Vice President Gautam urges PM Oli to step down from post without any further delay

KATHMANDU, Feb 24: Vice President of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP), Bamdev Gautam, has urged Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to resign from the post without any further delay.  

Issuing a press statement on Wednesday, Gautam said that Prime Minister Oli should step down from the post as the Supreme Court has quashed his move to dissolve the House of Representatives (HoR).

Vice President Gautam also urged President Bidya Devi Bhandari to welcome the Constitutional Bench's decision through a press release and summon the session of the HoR.

"In the capacity of the party's vice president, I urge both the chairpersons Oli and Prachanda to immediately call the meeting of the central secretariat meeting at the party's central office in Dhumbarahi," he said.

Terming the Supreme Court's verdict to reinstate parliament historic, Vice President Gautam has thanked the chief justice and justices of the Constitutional Bench for issuing the landmark verdict.

"Falgun 11, 2077 B.S., is a historic day after the country promulgated the federal democratic republic constitution. The respected apex court has safeguarded the constitution which was achieved through sacrifices made by millions of Nepali people," Gautam said.

"Prime Minister Oli's act of dissolving parliament on December 20 has now been unconstitutional with the court decision. This day has marked the defeat of authoritarianism, anarchism and abuse of authority. It marks another triumph of the constitution, law, democracy and people's sovereign choice," Gautam said in the statement.
