Election Commission holds discussion with 12 political parties on proposed election code of conduct

KATHMANDU, Feb 14: The Election Commission (EC) on Sunday held a discussion with 12 various political parties representing federal, provincial and local levels on the proposed election code of conduct.

At the outset of the event, Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Chandra Thapaliya urged the representatives of various political parties to give suggestions on the draft of the proposed election code of conduct prepared by the poll body in view of the midterm elections scheduled for April 30 and May 10.

On the occasion, representatives from various political parties stressed the need for implementing the election code effectively, ensuring the transparency of electoral campaign funding and making the election observation and monitoring committee effective.

They also demanded that representatives of election candidates and political parties be allowed to accompany the EC team and security personnel during the period when the voting is over. Likewise, they also urged the EC to set up CCTV cameras at the polling centers.

Election commissioners Narendra Dahal, Ishwari Poudel, Ram Prasad Bhandari, Janaki Kumari Tuladhar and EC secretary Dev Kumari Guragain were among those who attended the discussion at the EC headquarters, Kantipath.
