KATHMANDU, Jan 13: A hearing on 13 writ petitions filed against the dissolution of the House of Representatives (HoR) at the Supreme Court began on Wednesday afternoon.

A five-member constitutional bench headed by Chief Justice Cholendra SJB Rana is conducting the hearing on the writ petitions.

Earlier today, CJ Rana brought Sapana Malla Pradhan in place of Hari Krishna Karki in the constitutional bench as he announced not to be part of the bench after some lawyers raised question on his presence saying that Karki was previously appointed the Attorney General by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli during his first stint and that he could influence the hearing.

At the earlier hearing, the petitioners demanded a full bench for the hearing on cases.

Those against the government move of dissolving parliament have been staging mass demonstrations demanding restoration of parliament while the government has already begun preparations for holding the midterm elections.

The midterm elections have been scheduled for April 30 and May 10.
