Constitution amendment bill will be endorsed by majority of votes: Deuba

BIRATNAGAR, Dec 2: Nepali Congress President Sher Bahaur Deuba has categorically stated that the constitution amendment bill will be endorsed by a majority of  votes.

Speaking to journalists at Biratnagar airport on Friday morning, President Deuba claimed that the constitution bill registered in Parliament will be endorsed as it has been registered after consultation with all the political parties. 

“Not only will the United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) but also the CPN-UML vote in favor of the constitution amendment bill to the constitution,” Deuba claimed. UDMF and CPN-UML will also vote in favor of the proposed bill as the amendment has been brought after consultation with all the political parties.

He further said that he will also bring all those disgruntled parties protesting against the changes in demarcation of some provinces on board the constitution amendment bill.

“We will not back off the constitution amendment process,” clarified Deuba, adding that “it has already been forwarded.”

Meanwhile, Deuba said that the elections of local bodies will be held on the basis of the previous structure.

Deuba greeted with 14-kg garland

President Deuba, who reached Biratnagar for the first time after being elected the President of the Nepali Congress, was greeted with a 14-kg garland.

The NC leaders including Morang District President of the Nepali Congress Dig Bahadur Limbu and Secretary Nagesh Koirala greeted him with the garland and urged him to make Biratnagar the headquarters of Province 1.
