KATHMANDU, Dec 1: The editors of different media houses in the capital have expressed solidarity with Dr Govinda KC, a senior orthopedic surgeon at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH), on Thursday.
Issuing a press statement following the meeting with Dr KC at TUTH today, the editors have urged the government to save Dr KC’s life by addressing his demands at the earliest.
“We express our solidarity with Dr Govinda KC, a senior orthopedic surgeon and professor at TUTH, who has been staging hunger strike for the last 19 days demanding end to discrepancies in the medical sector. Meanwhile, we are equally worried by the indifference shown toward KC’s demand by the government,” the editors said in the statement.
“Each time Dr KC stages hunger strike, the government holds dialogues, forges agreements with Dr KC but never implements them. It is shameful not to see the demands raised by a responsible citizen resolved even in the 10th hunger strike,” reads the statement.
Dr KC has been staging hunger strike for the last 19 days, putting forth a six-point demand including appointment of dean at IOM based on seniority.
