KATHMANDU, Dec 23: Pushpa Kamal Dahal, who was elected as the parliamentary party leader by a rival faction of the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) lawmakers close to Dahal and senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal, has said that his first priority would be to restore the dissolved House of Representatives (HoR) and form a new government.

Shortly after the rival faction of NCP elected him as the parliamentary leader ousting Prime Minister KP Oli, Dahal said that he would make all the possible efforts to safeguard parliament and the federal democratic republican system.

Thanking the lawmakers for electing him as the parliamentary leader, he reiterated that he has been handed over a huge responsibility during this challenging time.

“I will unify all the democratic forces and political parties to keep the hard-won political system and parliament lively and functioning,” said he, adding that they would form a new government after the restoration of HoR.

The nomination of Dahal as the parliamentary leader was proposed by senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal, who was earlier named as one of the two chairmen of the party.

The Dahal-Nepal faction had earlier named Madhav Kumar Nepal as a chairman of the party. Both Dahal and Nepal will now act as the chairmen of the newly-formed party.
