KATHMANDU, Dec 22: The European Union (EU) has decided to continue its ban on Nepali airlines through a recent update in the EU Air Safety List, although the Himalayan country has been making efforts to get delisted from the EU blacklist for a long time.

The EU has decided to continue its ban on Nepali airlines through a recent update in the EU Air Safety List. The decision means Nepali airlines cannot fly to EU member-countries.

Earlier this month, the EU had hinted at removing Nepali airlines from its blacklist, allowing them to fly within the EU, given the progress in Nepal’s air safety status. “The EU has been aware of the progress Nepal has achieved in air safety and the registration of a new Civil Aviation Bill in the federal parliament. It will be easy to go through the process to remove Nepal from its blacklist,” the economic union of over two dozen European nations had stated on the establishment day of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) in the first week of December.

For the first time, the EU banned the Nepali airlines from flying in its airspace on December 5, 2013.
