KATHMANDU, Dec 7: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has called an all-party meeting on Tuesday to discuss contemporary political issues.

Bishnu Rimal, chief political advisor to PM Oli, told Republica that the all-party meeting will begin at 11 am at the Prime Minister's Official Residence in Baluwatar. However, Rimal did not divulge the exact purpose of the planned all-party meet.

Top leaders of the major political parties, including the main opposition Nepal Congress, represented in the parliament are expected to take part in the meeting.

A source close to the Prime Minister said that the meeting will also discuss ongoing demonstrations demanding the restoration of constitutional monarchy and the Hindu state in various parts of the country, including Kathmandu.

The Prime Minister is also expected to share the government's ongoing efforts to control the COVID-19 pandemic during the meeting.

The meeting is going to take place at a time when the Prime Minister is under immense pressure to step down from the post owing to factional feuds within the ruling party.

This is the second all-party meeting called by Prime Minister Oli in the past seven months. In May this year, Oli had convened a similar meeting just before issuing the country's revised political map incorporating Kalapani, Limpiyadhura and Lipu Lekh which have long been encroached upon by neighboring India.
