MORANG, Nov 30: One person died and three others sustained injuries in a road accident in Morang district on Monday morning.
The incident took place when a moving ambulance (Sa 1 Cha 1122) rammed into a parked lorry with the Indian registration number plate (NL 01 L 0336) in Biratnagar-4, Kanchanbari, along the Koshi Highway at 1 am, according to District Police Office, Morang.
The deceased has been identified as 65-year-old Nunulal Mandal from Tilathi Koiladi of Saptari district. He was an asthma patient and was being rushed to Golden Hospital, Biratnagar, for the treatment when the incident took place.
Jitendra Mandal, 30, Ramsundar Mandal, 50, and Bholidevi Mandal, 45, who were travelling in the same ambulance sustained injuries. Of the four injured, Nunulal Mandal breathed his last while undergoing treatment at Nobel Teaching Hospital, Biratnagar while three others are currently receiving treatment in the same hospital.
Ambulance driver Hari Narayan Yadav is still at large and police have launched a search operation to nab him. The driver of the lorry has not yet come into contact with the police. It is learnt that the vehicle was being parked after it was broken down.
