KATHMANDU, Nov 13: The Secretariat meeting of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) on Friday concluded after finalizing the agenda for its next meeting.

The meeting held at the prime minister’s official residence in Baluwatar has decided to hold another Secretariat meeting on November 18. The agenda of the upcoming meeting is largely focused on the implementation of the decisions taken by the party’s committees in the past and resolving the differences seen within the party, according to NCP Spokesperson Narayan Kaji Shrestha.

Earlier, five of the nine Secretariat members had asked Prime Minister KP Oli, who is also the party’s chairman, in writing to call the party’s Secretariat meeting. However, Oli had refused to call the meeting until the differences were settled at the level of the two chairmen of the party.

The dissenting leaders led by Executive Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal had warned Prime Minister Oli to unilaterally call the party’s Secretariat meeting if the meeting was not summoned until Thursday. The dissenting group had also planned to call the party’s Standing Committee meeting after holding the Secretariat meeting.

Amid growing rift between the chairmen duo, the party’s General Secretary Bishnu Paudel had called the Secretariat meeting for Friday after holding consultation with both Oli and Dahal.  The chairmen duo are at odds on a number of issues including the appointment of ambassadors, Cabinet ministers and many other decisions that Dahal has accused Oli of taking unilaterally with complete disregard to the party’s instructions.
