KATHMANDU, Oct 18: Air Arabia Abu Dhabi’s inaugural flight to Nepal was welcomed with a water cannon salute at the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) on Saturday.

“A flight that usually used to be scheduled from Sharjah arrived from Abu Dhabi in the afternoon,” an official at the airport told Republica.

Air Arabia Abu Dhabi had announced plans to launch low-cost direct flights to Nepal from October 17. According to the company, it will conduct four flights a week every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. “We are excited to start our operations to the capital of Nepal with direct flights from Abu Dhabi,” the company tweeted.

Nepal is the carrier’s eighth route. The company has stated that the service has been made available to make traveling convenient for passengers from both the countries.

The venture between Air Arabia and Etihad Airways has also introduced free COVID-19 insurance coverage for its passengers. The validity of the insurance is 31 days from the day of the departure on the itinerary. As the COVID-19 risk intensifies, airliners have come forward with COVID-19 insurance coverages.

The addition of direct flight to and from Abu Dhabi is expected to benefit Nepali migrant workers who are employed in the United Arab Emirates in great numbers.
