BIRATNAGAR, Aug 22: Police have seized 1,420 kg of marijuana from Dharan, Sunsari.
A total of 1,420 kg of marijuana was seized from a truck en route to Dharan from Dhankuta.
Over 16 quintals of marijuana seized in Sarlahi
According to the police, the truck (1 Kha 4733) loaded with marijuana, was found at around 9 AM in the morning. As many as 44 sacks of marijuana were recovered.
The District Police Office, Sunsari, said that the arrested individuals have been identified as Rajkumar Dahal, 34, of Gachhiya, Sundar Haraicha Municipality-7, Morang and Bhupendra Rai, 41, of Shahid Bhumi Rural Municipality-7, Dhankuta.
The seized marijuana was being exported to India. Commercial marijuana is cultivated around Chhintang in Dhankuta illegally, police said.
Police also said that marijuana is being brought from Dhankuta, storing them in the border area of Morang, Sunsari and then smuggling them into India during the night.
Drug smugglers are attracted to exporting marijuana to India as it fetches over Rs 20,000 per kg. Police said, the transporter involved in transporting the marijuana receives Rs 2,000 per kg.
