This is the era of instant gratification and we search for instant result, be it food or work. We want everything instantly and while working in your computer you might be delaying your work by not knowing shortcut keys in your computer.

A keyboard shortcut is a set of one or more keys that invoke a command in software or an operating system. It provides quick access to a particular function in a computer. And the best part is that they are not case sensitive which can perform a function by using shortcut keys with both Caps ON or OFF.

Here are some windows shortcut keys that everyone should know:


Windows Key + R: Opens the Run menu.

Windows + Break: Opens the System Properties dialog box.

Windows + Tab: Opens Task view.

Windows Key + E: Opens Explorer.

Windows + F1: Opens Windows Help and Support.

Windows Key + Up Arrow: Maximizes current window.

Windows Key + D: Hides/displays the desktop.

Windows Key + F: Opens search for files and folders.

Windows Key + Break: Opens system properties.

Windows Key + M: Minimizes all windows.

Shift + Windows Key + M: Restores windows that were minimized with previous keystroke.

Hold Right SHIFT key for eight seconds: Switches FilterKeys on and off.

Press Shift five times: Switch Sticky keys on and off.

F1: Opens Help menu for active application.

Alt + Esc: Switches between programs in order they were opened.

Alt + Tab: Switches between open programs.

Alt + Letter: Selects menu item by underlined letter.

Alt + Spacebar: Opens menu for active program.

Alt + F4: Quits active application or close current window.

Left Alt + Left Shift + Num Lock: Switches Mouse keys on and off.

Left Alt + Left Shift + Print Screen: Switches High Contrast on and off.

Ctrl + Esc: Opens Start menu.

Ctrl + Shift + Esc: Opens Task Manager.

Ctrl + F4: Closes active document (does not work with some applications).

Ctrl + Left or Right Arrow: Moves cursor forward or back one word.

Ctrl + Up or Down Arrow: Moves cursor forward or back one paragraph.
