The Shadow

The Shadow

I imagine a thirst fulfilling well

And my shadow reflected in the well’s water

I also want to plant a tree beside the well;

For, I do not want my shadow to be lonely

The tree would grow with time;

And with the ageing life

 I shall ask—should I pour my life’s lamentation

To the standing tree which I had planted or

To its shadow in the well’s water?

I shall ask this tremendous question of life

To the life like well itself

And the well shall reply me back and say—

“Pour your lamentation to the shadow, not to the tree

Because the tree is not flawless like the shadow;

It bears excessive pride for standing, unlike the shadow

It does not know how to bow.”

slammed, shadow, fulfillment,
