Souls of my city: Comparing life in city and village
Palmo Ghising, 43, lives in Dimi Pokhari, Ramechap. She runs a small shop and hotel. Palmo got married at the age of 15. She has two sons and a daughter who is living in the city. She used to stay in Kathmandu. Now, she has returned to her birthplace.
“City life attracts people but life there is chaotic. “I prefer living a dignified life in the village to working in the city,” said Palmo. Palmo used to work as a carpet weaver in Kathmandu. After the birth of her children, financial crisis burdened the family.
This led her husband to leave for India in pursuit of work. She took care of her children with the money she earned from carpet weaving. Now that her children are grown up and have jobs, she moved back to Ramechhap. “Ever since I moved back to my village I am living a happy and peaceful life,” said Palmo.
