Souls of My City: Being a father
Being a father
Shyam Shrestha lost his father when he was 13 years old. Since then his mother took care of her eight children. “We were eight- six brothers and two daughters. I came to Kathmandu and worked hard at a hotel. I started as dishwasher and did various types of work there. Now I want to ensure good education and life for my children. As their father, I will always be there to love and support them,” said 42-year-old Shrestha from Kavrepalanchowk, who currently lives at Jorpati, Kathmandu. “Being a father and the moments of having my daughter and son and holding them for the first time was the happiest time of my life,” he said. “I always love children. When they get sick it makes me worry while their joy becomes a reason of my happiness. I feel I am living this life for my family. I am here because my family members are there,” he shared.
