You wake up with a sore throat then come the coughing, sneezing, and sniffling. There’s no denying it — you’ve got cold. Since you can’t get rid of a cold, being mindful and staying on top of your symptom treatment is the key. But you can find relief faster with these smart moves.

1)    Take it easy
Your body needs more energy than usual when you’re sick. Your body works hard to fight off that infection. In that case stay at home and make rest your top priority, putting your daily routine on hold until you feel better.

2)    Go to bed
Heading to bed early and taking naps during the day can help you ease your body. And if your symptoms keep you up at night then try sleeping using an extra pillow to raise your head. This can ease sinus pressure and help you breathe comfortably.

3)    Drink up
You get dehydrated when suffering from cold. So to prevent the headaches and fatigue get plenty of fluids. It helps break up congestion and make mucus thin. Keep a glass or reusable bottle on hand, and refill it with water. Skip caffeinated sodas, coffee, and alcohol, which can dry you out.

4)    Gargle with salt water
Gargling with salt water is a good way to soothe a throbbing throat. The salt water eases swelling and loosens mucus.  Stir one-quarter to one-half teaspoon of salt into a cup of warm water until it’s dissolved, and gargle a few times a day.

5)    Sip a hot beverage
A hot mug of tea is comforting and it is evident that the heat can also ease cold symptoms such as a sore throat and fatigue. Try sipping non-caffeinated herbal tea, lemon water, or warm broth.
