Shivaratri festival at Chhayachetra

SYANGJA, Feb 12: The Chhayachetra Shiva Mandir Committee is all set to organize Shivaratri Festival at the temple’s premises to mark Hindu’s one of the greatest festivals Maha Shivaratri. Chhayachetra temple is situated at the border of Waling Municipality and Bheerkot Municipality of Syangja district. 

A meeting of the Chhayachetra Temple Committee had decided to organize the festival. The Chhayachetera Temple is also known as Pashupatinath of Province 4. Three account committees and one management committee of 101 people have been formed. 

It is believed that when lord Shiva got tired and thirsty while carrying the dead body of Sati Devi, he hit his trishul on a hill. As water had started to sprout after the trishul hit, the area was hence named Chhang-chhang Di. 

According to Chairperson of the Chhayachetra Temple Committee Pitamber Shrestha, the fest aims at promoting the area’s historical importance. He said, “Protection and development of cultural heritages is the main concern of the local government.” 

Member of the committee, Chakrabandhu Regmi, said various auspicious and holy ceremonies are held in the temple’s premises. The temple is spread on 60 ropani area. He added that the committee was planning to construct a building with the capacity to accommodate 800 pilgrims along with food facility.
