SC orders province govt not to carry out long-term decisions in Gandaki

KATHMANDU, May 10: The Supreme Court (SC) on Friday gave an interim order to the Chief Minister of Gandaki Province Government, Khagaraj Adhikari, not to carry out decisions that have lasting impacts.

A single bench of Justice Abdul Aziz Musalman gave such an interim order hearing the case lodged by the outgoing chief minister and Nepali Congress parliamentary party leader in Gandaki Province, Surendra Raj Pandey.

The next hearing of the case has been fixed for May 22 giving special priority to the case.

A writ petition was filed at the SC on May 7 arguing that the vote of confidence gained by Chief Minister of Gandaki Province Adhikari is 'unconstitutional'.

In the petition filed by Raj Pandey, it was claimed that the vote of confidence obtained by Chief Minister Adhikari was unconstitutional.

The petition claimed that the vote of confidence was secured by counting the votes of the Province Assembly in an illegitimate way.

CM Adhikari obtained 30 out of 60 votes in the Province Assembly. One has to get 31 votes to secure a majority in the Province Assembly, it is mentioned in the writ petition.
