SC dismisses both committees of NRNA

KATHMANDU, April 4: Bringing an end to a long-standing controversy within the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA), the Supreme Court (SC) has dismissed the two committees of the NRNA. After the dispute arose in the election process of the previous session, as both Badri KC and RK Sharma were claiming to be the president of NRNA, two separate committees were formed.

On Wednesday, the division bench comprising Justices Sapna Pradhan Malla and Nahkul Subedi scrapped the existing committees and mandated the organization to hold a convention within six months. The SC not only invalidated the current committee but also the one that had been unanimously elected with three chairpersons earlier.

Amidst the prior discord, Kul Acharya, Badri KC, and Rabina Thapa had each assumed the presidency by turns. The bench directed a high-level committee, formed on January 15, 2022, under the leadership of former NRNA president Shesh Ghale, to facilitate a unity convention within the stipulated six months. Additionally, the SC ruled against recognizing the committee led by Binod Kunwar, formed by the NRNA.
