Post-quake pain in soulful sarangi

Post-quake pain in soulful sarangi

Sarangi players as well as father-son duo Chitra Bahadur and Govinda Gandarva have been traveling around various parts of Lamjung and singing songs about the earthquakes of April 2015 and the miseries they caused.

Both of them live in Tarkughat of Rainas municipality 1 in Lamjung, and they have been collecting money through their musical skills to build their house that was destroyed in the 2015 Gorkha earthquakes.

They have composed emotional songs about the pain they had to endure due to the earthquakes. Their songs also include tips to stay safe as well as some preventive measures during an earthquake.

About the songs Chitra Bahadur shared, “We listen to the news on radio and read it in newspapers; the sluggish post-quake reconstruction works by the government inspired us to create lyrics about the victims’ plight. We have also included our own story in the songs. We believe this approach will be helpful for the society as well.”
